Today… National Seniors Australia chief executive, Michael O’Neill, calls for an articulated retirement income policy from the federal government in his address to the Self Managed Super Fund industry’s national conference at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Southbank.

Tomorrow, Friday 25 Feb 2011, 9.00am – 5.00pm.…. Future housing for older Australians – Barriers to Innovation. AHURI and The Benevolent Society are hosting a one day symposium that will discuss and debate innovative solutions and practical steps to creating better housing outcomes for Australia’s ageing population. In Melbourne on 3 March, National Seniors Australia is hosting a forum and public debate to discuss “Australia’s crumbling aged care system”. Michael O’Neill, National Seniors Australia CEO, will be in Melbourne to listen to the stories of those affected and lobby policy makers for urgent reform. If you’re in Canberra, on 3 March, Goodwin Aged Care Services is hosting a fundraising event to assist the Queensland Flood Appeal, in particular the residents and staff of Pine Lodge Home for the Aged at Rocklea where residents remain evacuated due to extensive flood damage. Billed as ‘a night to be remembered’ the event entails a cocktail function with ‘fancy food and drinks’ on 3 March at the Goodwin Lifestyle Club in Ainslie in Canberra’s inner north. Bar opens at 6pm, canapés served from 6.30pm and the auction commences at 7.30pm. Cocktail and lounge suit is the dress code. Tickets, $100. Still in Canberra, Anglicare Australia and United Voice (formerly LHMU) have joined forces to host a community sector forum looking at how the new aged and community care system might ensure access for all to high quality care services as needed, regardless of background or wealth. The event, called, ‘Living on a low income and care in later life’ is taking place 9:30 am – 4:30 pm, Wednesday 9 March in the Location Common Room, University House, ANU, Canberra. Early bird registrations are now open for Alzheimer’s Australian NSW’s ‘new look’ ‘Memory Walk and Memory Jog’ fun run, to be held at Lilyfield in Sydney’s inner west on 15 May 2011. This year’s event has been moved to a new location at Leichhardt Oval #3, with the course to follow the well-known Bay Run. As well as 2km and 7km walks, participants who are up for more of a challenge can now take part in a 7km or 9km fun run. Nominations are now open for the Aged & Community Services WA Excellence in Care Awards, now in their third year. Winners will be announced at the ACSWA Excellence in Care Awards Gala Dinner at the Astral Room at Burswood on June 10. Award categories include: Employee, Volunteer, Organisation, Industry Supporter, Trainee, Media and Aged & Community Excellence. Nominations close Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
