Douglas St Vincent’s aged care facility transitions to Ozcare
This month sees Ozcare take over the Douglas St Vincent’s aged care facility in Townsville.

As St Vincent’s focuses its attention on its sites and services in south-east Queensland, the Douglas aged care facility will transition into the hands of Ozcare from 3 February.
The deal, which was announced in December, involved Ozcare retaining all staff at the 140-bed residential aged care facility in Douglas, Townsville, allowing all residents to keep their current rooms and maintaining all existing services with minimal interruptions during the transition.

“This transition reflects our commitment to the care needs of the residents of Douglas,” said St Vincent’s Care chief executive officer Lincoln Hopper at the time of the announcement.
“We wanted to find a new operator with a similar mission and values, and that also shared our commitment to compassionate and excellent care. After a comprehensive process, Ozcare was the best choice.
“Like St Vincent’s, Ozcare is a purpose-driven, not-for-profit, health and aged care service provider, with similar values. Importantly, it has a focus in regional Queensland – including aged care services already in Townsville – which puts it in a strong position to support the Douglas community. It is also a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland family.”
Ozcare chief executive officer Tony Godfrey said he was honoured to welcome the residents, families, and staff of St Vincent’s Care Douglas into the Ozcare family, and that Ozcare’s mission has always been to provide compassionate, high-quality care.

“Ozcare has grown to operate in more than 50 locations across Queensland, including several aged care facilities in Townsville and the surrounding region. Our strong presence in Townsville and regional Queensland ensures we are well-positioned to maintain and enhance the exceptional care that’s been provided by St Vincent’s Care at Douglas,” Mr Godfrey said.
The two organisations have been working to a joint plan to ensure residents, families and staff are being fully supported and can receive regular updates during the transition process. Ozcare and St Vincent’s both have teams available on-site to address any questions or concerns.
