ECH opens vertical village in Modbury

Retirement living and home care provider ECH has opened Encore Apartments, a vertical village in Modbury, South Australia.

South Australian retirement living and home care provider ECH has officially opened the doors to a $42.5 million vertical aged care village in Modbury.

The Encore Apartments have been designed to offer dementia-friendly apartment-style living and a sense of community.

The vertical village includes 77 two-bed apartments with open plan living, private balconies and appropriate colour schemes and textures to engage people living with dementia to age in place.

It also features an onsite gym, café, community hall and community garden.

The collocated Montessori Early Learning Centre, Echoes Montessori, will open in January and offer learning opportunities between children and ECH residents.

ECH chief executive Dr David Panter said he was excited to open the apartments and welcome residents to their new homes.

“The construction of Encore Apartments demonstrates our commitment to creating innovative village environments to meet the growing needs of our community,” Dr Panter said.

“As a society we need to move away from the typical model of retirement living and develop new ways for people to live independently that positively impact their overall health and wellbeing,” he said.

Encore Apartments is expected to be home to 120 residents when it is fully occupied, ECH said.
