Executive changes at UnitingCare Queensland
BlueCare group executive Cathy Thomas has been appointed interim chief executive officer of parent company UnitingCare Queensland as the final day of outgoing CEO Craig Barke draws near.

BlueCare group executive aged care and community services Cathy Thomas will begin as interim chief executive officer of UnitingCare Queensland on 4 June following the departure of Craig Barke.

Announced on LinkedIn this month, UnitingCare Queensland wrote that Ms Thomas’ deep understanding of UnitingCare’s purpose and her proven leadership would support a smooth transition to a new chief executive officer.
The for-purpose, not-for-profit service provider said Ms Thomas’ history on the executive leadership team since 2016 alongside key leadership roles at BlueCare – UnitingCare Queensland’s aged care service – made her well-positioned to lead through the transitionary period.
UnitingCare Queensland also used the post to thank Craig Barke for his “leadership, achievements and dedicated service” over the eight years he spent as chief executive officer.
“He has led substantial transformation through a time of continual reform and change in the sectors in which we operate,” the multifaceted care and service provider wrote.
“Under Cathy’s leadership UnitingCare will continue to fulfil its purpose in serving individuals and communities to bring ‘life in all its fullness’.”
UnitingCare Queensland announced the departure of Mr Barke in March – also on LinkedIn.
