Goodwin appoints new chair

The changeover occurs as the ACT provider celebrates its 70th anniversary.

Aged care and retirement living provider Goodwin Aged Care Services has appointed a new board chair – Laurann Yen.

Having chaired the care and clinical governance committee and the residential general forum for several years, Ms Yen has been an active and engaged member of the organisation’s board.

Ms Yen brings to the role many years of research and senior management experience spanning health, law, and psychology.

Upon accepting the appointment, Ms Yen said: “I am incredibly honoured to accept the role of chair of Goodwin Aged Care Services. This year of Goodwin’s 70th anniversary has highlighted the reputation that Goodwin has in the community, and I look forward to continuing to deliver the high standards we are proud to offer to our residents, clients and families in our community.”

Ms Yen replaces Liesel Wett who joined the board in 2009 and became chair in 2014.

Thanking Ms Wett for her “outstanding years of service”, Goodwin management pointed to her many achievements over the past 10 years. “Ms Wett has guided the organisation through the industry-defining period of Covid-19 and the unsurpassed challenges that it brought.”

Management also acknowledged Ms Wett’s decision to engage a full-time pharmacist on staff in 2018 “an initiative which the federal government has now facilitated for residential aged care facilities across the country.”

Ms Wett said being appointed Goodwin’s director and chair had been a privilege. “The services that Goodwin has provided our community is something I’ll always be proud of. Goodwin is an organisation that has a direct impact on people’s lives and wellbeing, and I’m extremely proud of having a hand in the growth of scale and quality of services.”

Ms Yen commenced the role of chair on 1 July.
