IRT purchases prominent Wollongong site
The Links Seaside community is part of the organisation’s ongoing expansion plan.
IRT has announced the purchase of a prominent seniors living community situated close to the centre of Wollongong.
The not-for-profit, community-based provider purchased the complex from Horizon Living as part of its ongoing expansion plans.
The modern, multi-storey facility is made up of 154 independent living units, 90 aged care beds and 63 unoccupied serviced apartments.
“Links Seaside has an extremely nice portfolio and it helps us to meet the growing demand for IRT services in the Wollongong area,” said the group’s Acting CEO, Craig Hamer.
“It is a superb, modern purpose-built facility, providing the opportunity for IRT to deliver the services which we know that people in Wollongong are looking for.”
Mr Hamer said IRT had no immediate plans for further expansion, although he added that the organisation is always on the lookout for new opportunities.
Towards the end of 2009, IRT opened a new village in Canberra, Kangara Waters, which featured a mixture of self care apartments and aged care places.
Mr Hamer said integrated sites such as the Kangara Waters development and the Links Seaside community were integral to IRT’s planning.
“It has been part of our model for many years and it is the model for us for the future,” he said.
“It fits our mission to create communities where older people can achieve optimum quality of life.”
IRT will make some minor alterations to the Links Seaside serviced apartments to convert them into funded care places. It plans to take over the operation of the facility around March.
