IRT takes control of latest acquisition

The high profile Wollongong seniors living community has played an important role in the group’s expansion plans.

IRT has taken control of a prominent seniors living community in Wollongong which it acquired in January.

The Links Seaside is a modern, multi-storey facility containing 154 independent living units, 90 aged care beds and 63 unoccupied serviced apartments.

The group’s CEO, Nieves Murray said the community was an attractive purchase because it was already operational.

The group already runs 30 aged care and retirement living sites in NSW and the ACT but the Links Seaside property is the only one it has not built itself.

“[It] is not the first IRT property targeted at this market,” said Ms Murray.

“We have already built, and operate a property of similar standard in [the] ACT, Kangara Waters, which we opened last year, and a village in Campbelltown in 2005. In fact, Macarthur Village is larger than Links Seaside.”

Although the Links Seaside facility is aimed at more affluent retirees, Ms Murray said the group was committed to providing care to people from all walks of life.

“IRT operates properties and services spanning the entire socio-economic spectrum of older people, ranging from the homeless through to the more affluent,” said Ms Murray.

“We deliver the highest quality of care to older people within our communities regardless of their financial status or the village they choose as their home.”
