Channel 10 gives Today Tonight’s ‘hand-cuff’ journalist a second chance on the Sunshine Coast.
According to an article in the Sunshine Coast Daily, the former Today Tonight journalist who fabricated a story about inappropriate restraint in a Sydney aged care facility has been given a second chance by Channel Ten on the Sunshine Coast.
Channel 7 sacked Nicolas Boot (pictured) after he supplied chains to lock an 84-year old nursing home resident in her room for a story that went to air in February last year.
In it, Mr Boot claimed the woman had been chained to a cupboard at the Willoughby Aged Care Retirement Centre.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the chains had been ‘set-up’ by the TV crew.
Channel Ten’s News Director, Cathie Schnitzerling, said Mr Boot would begin working at the station’s Sunshine Coast bureau in February.
“What I wanted on the Sunshine Coast was an experienced reporter, and Nicolas is very experienced, knows the area and he is renowned for being a hard worker,” she told the Sunshine Coast Daily.
“I decided all of that far outweighed the poor publicity he has had in the past,” she said.
“I decided to give him the position because I think he’ll be very competitive in that market and he will be a strong journalist for Channel Ten,” said Ms Schnitzerling.
