MiCare announces new CEO

Penni Michael replaces long-standing MiCare chief Petra Neeleman.

MiCare – which specialises in providing aged care to older people from culturally diverse backgrounds – has appointed Penni Michael as its new chief executive officer.

Ms Michael has held several roles at MiCare – which provides residential aged care, home care and retirement living services – since joining the organisation in 2012, including her current role of deputy CEO.

With more than 25 years’ working in the aged and community care sector – which includes experience in procedure development, policy analysis, and research – Ms Michael has played an active role in advocating for the need for culturally and linguistically diverse care in Australia.

Upon her appointment, Ms Michael said: “I feel honoured and privileged to have been appointed CEO and thank the board for their support.”

She added: “I believe that within the leadership team and MiCare there is outstanding skill, knowledge and experience and we will continue to put the client at the centre of everything we do. I look forward to working with all our stakeholders during this important time of change in aged care.”

Ms Michael replaces long-standing MiCare chief Petra Neeleman who – after 33 years of leadership – is retiring.

Ms Neeleman’s association with what is now MiCare began in 1986. She was appointed CEO in 1991. “I have had many wonderful opportunities, great moments of achieving what we set out to do, which was to build meaningful relationships which make a difference to the lives of our clients as well as each other,” said Ms Neeleman.

Whilst farewelling Ms Neeleman, board chair Jos van de Ven welcomed Ms Michael to the role. “We are looking forward to the next chapter of MiCare,” he said.

Ms Michael commences the CEO role from 12 July.
