Multicultural expansion

A major Victorian not-for-profit provider has officially opened a new and revamped multicultural aged care facility.

One of Victoria’s largest not-for-profit service providers has officially unveiled its flagship facility following a $10.8 million expansion.

Following the upgrade, Benetas St George’s has doubled its high care capacity to 60 beds, along with 30 low care places.

It also boasts a range of new range of lifestyle options including a hairdresser, café, therapy room, activities room and picture theatre.

Originally opened in 1994, Benetas St George’s was specifically designed and developed to meet the needs of the increasingly multicultural population in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The region now has a Victoria’s highest proportion of migrants, with a third of the total population coming from non-English speaking countries.

Priority access to Benetas St George’s is given to people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and the facility’s staff members and volunteers speak 20 languages between them.

The facility was among the first to introduce a multicultural model of care in Victoria and is now one of the largest multicultural aged care home’s in Melbourne’s west.
