New CEO for CS&HISC
The new chief of the national qualifications body comes to the sector with a background in recruitment and vocational education.
The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CS&HISC) has appointed Rod Cooke as its new CEO.
CS&HISC is the national body responsible for setting vocational and education training standards and qualifications for the health and community services sectors.
More than 1.2 million people are employed in health and community services roles and a third of them have vocational qualifications.
Mr Cooke said the role of CS&HISC is to make sure that people with the right skills and qualifications are making their way into the workplace.
He also highlighted the importance of preparing for the future skills shortage in health and community services.
“We need to be working hard now to recruit, train and retain a whole new workforce to ensure continuity of care,” he said.
“This includes ensuring that we, as an industry skills council, find ways to support employers, workers and government to match training and development to the new evolving needs.”
Mr Cooke comes to the new role with a background in recruitment and the vocational education sector.
He has held senior management positions with Orana Education & Training Cooperative, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, the NRMA and the Australian Army.
He also serves on the board of the Lane Cove Community Aid Service, Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW (Central West) and the United Protestant Association Aged Care Services.
