New development for Goodwin

Goodwin Aged Care Services has just settled on the sale of land upon which a new seniors living village will be built.

Goodwin Aged Care Services Limited and CIC Australia have announced that they have settled on the sale of land for a new seniors living village in one of Canberra’s newer suburbs, Crace.

News of the new ACT development, released yesterday, heralds a new era for the organisation as it moves to create a seniors’ ageing-in-place lifestyle village that fuses innovative design and new amenities.

“We expect building to start in early 2013 and the development will see one, two and three bedroom apartments, several townhouses, a stunning lifestyle centre and some commercial space in a precinct that will offer all the conveniences expected in a modern urban village”, said Goodwin’s CEO, Chris Lamont.

Goodwin has engaged AMC Design + Management as the lead architect for the new $70 million development.

“What motivates us about Goodwin Crace is the opportunity to create a non-institutional urban living environment that sets a new standard for retirees,” said Alastair MacCallum, Director of AMC Design + Management.

Developments in the north and south of Canberra have been hugely popular and Mr Lamont said the new development will build on the lessons learnt at other Goodwin villages.

Mr Lamont said there has been real interest from the Crace community in the proposed development throughout the consultation process.
This modern development will be supported by Goodwin Community Care, providing access to in-home help and support to allow independence and quality of life.

“The combination of accessible, 60+ specific accommodation at Crace and Goodwin’s additional health services will bridge gaps and bring families closer together as young families occupy Crace and the surrounding suburbs.”

Goodwin expects that the first new residents in the village will be moving in by mid 2014.  Updates on development and pricing will be available on the Goodwin web page (www.goodwin.org.au) in the coming months.
