New MD for Bupa
Australia’s largest private aged care provider has a new managing director in a senior change of guard in the Asia Pacific region.

Bupa Care Services has a new managing director in charge, starting this week.
Mr Louis Dudley has been appointed managing director, effective 1 May 2013. He replaces Mr Paul Gregersen who has led Bupa Care Services Australia (BCSA) since 2008 and has now been appointed managing director of the emerging market in China.
The two senior executives have effected a form of executive exchange in that Mr Dudley comes to the Australian role from his previous position as managing director of Bupa China, currently a representative office for the company.
Mr Dudley has held senior strategy and business development roles with Bupa for the past 12 years. According to a statement, he is well acquainted with the aged care industry, having previously worked with Bupa on its global aged care expansion that resulted in the acquisition of the Australian and New Zealand aged care businesses.
Before joining Bupa, Mr Dudley worked in the Australian private hospital sector, primarily with Health Care of Australia (now part of Ramsey Healthcare) in hospital management, health insurance contracting and mergers and acquisitions. He is keen to see the BCSA business continue on its course of growth and expansion, both in residential aged care and other aged care services for the community.

The Bupa statement said that during Mr Gregersen’s time, the company has experienced significant growth and innovation. It said that Bupa has identified Asia as a key emerging market and Mr Gregersen’s move is part of a recent process of global reorganisation to support its purpose to help millions more people live longer, healthier, happier lives.
According to Bupa’s international website, the company is in discussions with the insurance regulator in China about plans to establish a domestic health insurance business and hopes “to apply for a health insurance licence in the near future”.
“Bupa is keen to contribute its expertise to the health insurance sector in China and deliver high quality products and services for Chinese customers,” it says.
Bupa is Australia’s largest private aged care provider. It is now the largest international aged care provider with 446 homes worldwide.
