NFP merger
In a sign of the times, a small Tasmanian provider will join with a large Victorian organisation.
A merger between Tasmanian aged care provider, Karingal and Victorian not-for-profit organisation, Baptcare will go ahead, after the two organisations held talks in February this year.
The deal will secure the future of the small provider which operates an aged care home in Devonport with over 120 beds, along with the Orana Respite and Day Care Centre in East Devonport.
Both organisations are part of Baptist Care Australia, the peak body responsible for progressing Baptist care across Australia.
Karingal Board Chairman, Ron Dell said that although the organisation was in a sound financial position with a small surplus, it was seeking responsible management to take it forward.
“The merger will mean extra resources in the areas of learning, development and people services – all of which are difficult for a small organisation such as Karingal to achieve on its own,” he said.
Baptcare CEO, Jeff Davey also welcomed the partnership, saying Baptcare had much to gain from it.
“We are extremely excited to extend our aged care services beyond Victoria for the first time,” he said.
“Baptcare and Karingal have strong synergies in regards to their focus on providing the highest quality care for their aged residents and clients, and we look forward to working with Karingal’s staff to enhance this reputation,” Mr Davey said.
The new partnership is scheduled to begin on 1 July.
