Employers, colleagues and consumers are being encouraged to nominate leaders and innovators in aged care for this year’s HESTA Aged Care Awards.

Presented by HESTA in partnership with the National Aged Care Alliance, the national awards recognise excellence in service provision, advocacy, leadership and innovation in the aged care sector.

HESTA CEO Debby Blakey said the awards acknowledge the outstanding contribution of aged care services and professionals to the care of older Australians.

“Their amazing work improves the quality of life of ageing Australians in their homes, retirement villages and aged care facilities, benefiting not only individuals but the whole Australian community,” she said.

Winners in the three award categories — Outstanding Organisation, Team Innovation and Individual Distinction — will each receive $10,000 in a ME Everyday Transaction account towards further education or team development.

Last year, Southern Cross Care SA & NT won the Outstanding Organisation award for its Health & Wellness Centres launched in 13 residential aged care facilities.

PresCare Alexandra Gardens in North Rockhampton was recognised for its Sub-Acute Care pilot that aims to better manage clinical deterioration in residents. While nurse Camille Koch from Macedon Ranges Health – Gisborne Oaks Residential Aged Care in Victoria won for her work improving wound management practice.

  1. I have read about nomination awards and have to say : my name is Debby Anne Allanson. I reside at Jimbelunga aged care facility in EAGLEBY . QLD, I’ve been here since 22nd March and have experienced lots both good an bad.

Three are more than one staff member that are good at what they do in there work role, however the one person that I respect most is Sharon. Sharon is Italian but outside the strict norm of her culture when at work.

Anyways upon being very upset Sharon and I started talking an I found that she not only listened but she understood my distress, understood and acknowledged my feelings with validation and understood how my stress had manifested. Sharon when one gets to know her is an asset to Jimbelunga not just from the above but she also has an insight to mental illness and it’s. complications.
