Exceptional service to aged care in Western Australia has been recognised with the presentation of the 2008 Bethanie Medallions.

The annual prize is presented by the Bethanie Group to reward consistent high standards among staff members and volunteers within the sector.

The medallion for professional services went to Susan Marks, an Occupational Therapy Assistant at the Maurice Zeffert Memorial Home in Dianella.

Ms Marks worked as a volunteer at the home for three years before joining in a paid capacity in 1999.

In her role, she provides specialist care and therapeutic activities to people with dementia.

Her peers described Ms Marks as a very patient person who befriends elders in a gentle way while caring for them in a way that preserves their independence and dignity.

The medallion for voluntary services went to Valya Campbell, a dedicated volunteer with the Bethanie Group.

Ms Campbell volunteers three days a week at the Bethanie Waters facility where staff and family residents recognise her concern and affection.

She has also been a volunteer for the Red Cross for the past ten years.
