As an NDIS Local Area Coordination Partner in the Community, Carers Queensland’s new offices opened at Ashmore, Logan, Eight Mile Plains, Capalaba, North Lakes and Maroochydore this month.

Carers Queensland Chair Jim Toohey says the organisation has been expanding over the last three years and is honoured to be involved in delivering the NDIS at time of historic change in the NDIS sector.

The offices will help the community understand and access the NDIS and provide planning support.

“Being part of the NDIS means a great deal to Carers Queensland and already we have seen the very positive, life-changing effects of the scheme in the lives of people with disability and their families,” he said.

CEO Debra Cottrell said the six new offices would help connect people with disability to the support they needed.

She said as well helping NDIS participants, Carers Queensland would also connect people who didn’t use the national insurance scheme with local mainstream support.

“We have a vital role to play in helping build a more accessible and inclusive community where people with disability are welcomed and valued.”

Meanwhile, not for profit organisation erma has officially opened its doors in Darwin as part of the NDIS.

Often considered a “provider of last resort” ermha will offer community services to the Territory’s most challenging and complex clients with severe mental illness, many of whom have fallen through the cracks.

One of the first of its kind in the Territory, ermha will offered tailored servcies to people experiencing severe mental health crises.
