Second stage of SCCV Dandenong aged care home opening
Southern Cross Care (Vic) is opening its 120-bed Dandenong aged care facility to the public later this month ahead of the August completion of the latest stage of the $28 million development.
The second stage adds 60 beds to the facility, which opened in March last year and currently provides accommodation for 60 people.
SCCV executive manager residential and retirement living Wendy Waddell said the facility was built based on a “smaller is better” design concept, which marked a departure from the institutional, medical model of aged care.
“It is divided into several discreet households – each accommodating 15 residents, its own kitchen, lounge, sitting and dining rooms. The aim is to create a more intimate, home-like living environment for the residents,” Ms Waddell said.
Other features include a grand entry foyer, circular chapel, café, hairdressing salon, smart TVs in each bedroom, and free Wi-Fi throughout the home.
Greengate appoints builder for co-located aged care and retirement facility
Greengate has appointed Brookfield Multiplex to build its $80 million St Patrick’s Green Aged Care and Retirement Village at Kogarah in Sydney.
The 21,000 square metre three-building development will include 105 independent living units and a 92-room aged care facility with capacity for 100 beds set above a two-level shared basement car park.
The village will feature a communal lawn green and colonnade, commercial kitchen and laundry, resident café and terrace, lounge, theatrette, dining, hair salon and gym, plus rehabilitation and training facilities.
Construction of St Patrick’s Green Aged Care and Retirement Village is scheduled for completion by late-2017.
Baptcare opens redeveloped Melbourne facility
Baptcare is preparing to launch its redeveloped Wyndham Lodge Aged Care facility in Werribee Melbourne.
Now known as Wyndham Lodge Community, the former 60-bed facility now accommodates 150 people in a purpose-built facility with spacious and modern bedrooms with ensuites and light and bright communal areas.
The facility also features large landscaped internal courtyards and indoor winter gardens to provide a connection to the outdoors every day of the year in all kinds of weather.
Wyndham Lodge Community will open next week.
Churches of Christ acquires two villages, begins disability housing project
Churches of Christ in Queensland has purchased the Assisi Court and Kilkivan retirement villages in Towoomba from Southern Cross Care Qld.
As a result of the acquisition, which was completed on 30 June, the provider now operates 17 retirement villages in Queensland and five in Victoria, in addition to 28 residential aged care services across the two states.
Elsewhere, Churches of Christ in Queensland is partnering with the Queensland Government on a specialised housing project in Crows Nest for adults with a disability.
The project, which is expected to be completed by April next year, is jointly funded by more than $435,000 from the State Government and Churches of Christ in Queensland, which invested $270,000.
The home will incorporate emergency response technology devices such as sensors, pendants, watches and networked smoke alarms, to ensure the residents feel connected at all times.
