Aged care sector consultancy Mirus Australia has appointed Andrew Farmer as chief executive officer.

Mr Farmer previously worked in the manufacturing and banking sectors and recently led an enterprise-wide transformation project to embed an organisation’s strategy to enable modern operating procedures.

The appointment allows Mirus Australia co-founders James Price and fellow co-founder Robert Covino to focus on building and executing strategic channels and partnerships.

Mr Price said the executive team would benefit from Mr Farmer’s leadership and skills.

“You have to recognise as a founder that your role changes over time and you absolutely need to stick to your strengths and I look forward to supporting Andrew grow the business and support more clients with our services,” Mr Price told Australian Ageing Agenda.

“It’s been an honour to work for Benetas and be part of creating real change to the lives of older Victorians,” said Mr Karagiannis told AAA.

“In particular, I am proud to have played a part in the development of The Views in Heidelberg, expansion of Dalkeith Gardens, the development of The Peter Volk apartments in Altona Meadows and our recent amalgamation with Macedon Ranges Health,” he said.

Mr Karagiannis will commence as CEO of Salvation Army Housing in August.

On Dr Laverty’s appointment, AMA president Dr Tony Bartone said the AMA board chose a chief executive with advocacy and deep health policy experience, a background in working behind the scenes with ministers and departments, and a strong track record in campaigning for nation health reform.

Dr Laverty said he was looking forward to taking on the new role.

“I will work closely with the president and the AMA federal council to promote the calibre and central importance of the medical profession within our healthcare system in the face of many challenges,” Dr Laverty said.
