Southern Cross Care appoints CEO

Residential aged care provider Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT has announced the appointment of Helen Emmerson as its new CEO.

Ms Emmerson has over 20 years’ experience in aged care and disability services in Australia and the UK and has also served as an executive member at Southern Cross Care for over six years, most recently as its head of care services.

She previously held executive positions with the Australian Foundation for Disability, Blind Veteran’s UK, the National Health Service UK and Uniting Care.

Ms Emmerson’s appointment follows the announcement of former CEO Paul McMahon’s retirement. She will commence in the role on 13 August.

BallyCara announces new director of Sona Institute

Residential and home care provider BallyCara has announced Michael Isaac as the new director of its Sona Institute.

The Sona Institute is BallyCara’s methodology for individualised care to provide professional services to the industry created in 2011 in response to a review of its lifestyle philosophy.

Mr Isaac has 30 years’ experience in various roles in the aged care sector and is an experienced influencer and industry leader. He has worked with BallyCara to develop Sona over the past few years.

In his new role, he will be responsible for leading the Sona Institute and its delivery of services.

BallyCara chief executive Marcus Riley welcomed Mr Isaac and said his experience with similar initiatives in the past made him suited to the role.

International Standards Organisation appoints Australian representatives

Anne Livingstone and Dr Sabrina Pit have been appointed as Australian representatives on the Ageing Societies technical committee at the International Standards Organisation.

The committee’s work builds on that of ISO’s 2016 International Working Agreement on a framework for integrated community-based life-long health and care services in aged societies and its Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) on Ageing Societies.

Ms Livingstone and Dr Pit were the Australian representatives on the 2016 IWA and SAG respectively.

The Ageing Societies technical committee will develop standards and solutions in a range of areas including technologies and systems for an ageing society, dementia, ageing workforces, health promotion and preventative care in old age, social connectiveness, informal carers, universal design standards and accessibility standards.

International Council of Nurses appoints Australian CEO

The International Council of Nurses has appointed Dr Isabelle Skinner as its new CEO.

Dr Skinner, a member of the Australian College of Nursing, has 32 years’ experience as a registered nurse and midwife and is currently a senior research fellow at James Cook University.

She has also served as an associate dean research and research training and the director of the office of learning and teaching at Charles Darwin University.

Dr Skinner specialises in digital health and has undertaken research on telehealth services, and designed mobile health and electronic health (eHealth) services.

The International Council of Nurses is an international federation of more than 130 nursing associations that was founded in Great Britain in 1899.
