Professor Inacio joins Pricing Authority

Epidemiologist and ROSA director Professor Maria Inacio has been appointed to the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority’s board.

The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority observed International Women’s Day by celebrating the recent appointment of Professor Maria Inacio to the board, which has brought its female representation to 50 per cent.

Dr Inacio – an epidemiologist with expertise in population health surveillance, aged and health care services research – is the director of the Registry of Senior Australians Research Centre at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. She is also the Matthew Flinders Professor of Health Services and Epidemiology at Flinders University Caring Futures Institute and a National Health and Medical Research Council fellow.

Part of her work at the ROSA Research Centra is to lead a team of more than 30 multidisciplinary researchers dedicated to improving the quality of care for older people.

Last year ROSA secured a $3 million Medical Research Future Fund National Critical Research Infrastructure grant to update and expand its platform to include StewartBrown’s workforce data plus quality indicator, funding and star ratings data and undertake a five-year project with six other partners including this publication examining the impact of workforce on older people’s care quality and health outcomes.

Other Pricing Authority board members include the chair David Tune, deputy chair Jennifer Williams, aged care pricing deputy chair Dr Stephen Judd, Glenn Appleyard, Prudence Ford, Dr Adam Coltzau, and Distinguished Professor Jane Hall.

The Pricing Authority provides independent and transparent advice to the government on funding for public hospitals and residential aged care services and members are appointed for a period of up to five years with the possibility of being reappointed.

All members are non-executive.
