A new poster guide has been launched to educate and inform aged care workers about the importance of health, safety and duty of care responsibilities in the context of the quality standards.
The National Guide for Aged Care 2020/21 is a free one metre square poster that aims to support staff to understand their responsibilities to the residents and to ensure they meet the Aged Care Quality Standards.
It has been developed by health, safety and wellbeing guide publisher Pro-Visual Publishing in partnership with aged care industry peak body Leading Age Services Australia.
The guide includes information on six key topics including:
- improving wound prevention and management
- nutrition
- medication control
- bladder control and incontinence
- aggression safety and security
- resident transfer and handling of residents.
It aims to be a constant visual reminder to staff to help ensure safety is at the forefront of their minds.
Staff can also download the free Pro-Vis AR app on any smart device to scan codes on the poster guide and access additional resources, including a link to a downloadable checklist to identify hazards on resident aggression.
Other resources on the app include videos on wound management, a demonstration on how to transfer a patient from a bed to a wheelchair and information on dementia and toilet behaviour by the Continence Foundation of Australia.
