New central source for aged care data

The Minister for Aged Care Ken Wyatt has launched a resource to facilitate greater public access to key statistics on aged care.

The GEN website is a collaboration between the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Department of Health.

The Minister for Aged Care Ken Wyatt has launched a resource to facilitate greater public access to key statistics on aged care.

Via the website, GEN, users can search for data on topics such as who is using aged care, patterns of service use, government spending and the location of aged care places nationally.

The site’s graphs, maps and figures can also be filtered to capture data of particular interest to individual users.

The resource also includes a tool to allow users to download population data and information on services specific to one of the 73 aged care planning regions.

GEN has been designed for a wide range of users including students and researchers, service providers, consumers, investors, data modellers and actuaries.

Mr Wyatt, who launched the website last week, said users could access a breakdown of statistics by state and region, and also lodge a request via the website to receive customised data.

Factsheets, infographics and reports are also available from the central website.

GEN accesses databases from the National Aged Care Data Clearinghouse, managed by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

  1. Congratulations on the new GEN Website.

At last a comprehensive single go-to-point for information; statistics and aged care background data.

This would have been so useful a few years ago when preparing funding submissions and Tenders.
