CareSearch has developed a Massive Open Online Course on death, dying and palliative care to be released this month.
The course, Dying2Learn, will run for four weeks and aims to build community awareness of palliative care and engage individuals in a discussion on end-of-life issues.
The learning modules cover topics such as:
- How does contemporary society engage with death and dying?
- How do we use language to describe it?
- What does death look like?
- How is death and dying portrayed in the media?
- Death during the internet-age.
CareSearch is an online website that shares the latest evidence and resources on palliative care for health professionals including GPs, nurses and aged care staff, as well as the general public. The project is funded by the Department of Health and is affiliated with the School of Health Sciences at Flinders University.
The MOOC will be conducted through the online learning platform OpenLearning, which delivers over 1500 MOOCs worldwide.
Participants in the MOOC can get involved in discussion boards, download learning materials and share resources throughout the course.
The free online course commences 27 June.

You would require to be on site for a period of time to observe the whole picture as residents change rapidly and every day is different, with changes in behaviours etc.
