A social enterprise that supports disadvantaged seniors and people living with disability has published a new e-Cookbook to assist older people to prepare meals on a budget.
The Sydney-based cooperative has also launched live streaming of its popular Low Cost Meals for Seniors Program in two locations – the OC Connections Enterprises in Melbourne and the City of Sydney’s Ron Williams Community Centre.
The cooking program is taught by Beehive Ambassador and Masterchef star Kumar Pereira, and aims to give disadvantaged older Australians the skills and confidence to cook simple and healthy one pot meals.
“We have always wanted to help those beyond just our core service users,” said Beehive CEO Brendan Lonergan.
“Live streaming to interested locations seemed the next natural evolution to the program. We’re looking to expand this further to a number of other organisations.”
He said the program has been designed to take the “unknown out of the kitchen” and to provide inspiration for healthy yet cost-effective meal alternatives for seniors.
