Online training for aged care staff on end-of-life

Decision Assist is hosting a series of webinars for aged care workers on the fundamentals of advance care planning.

The free webinars cover a range of topics including communication, diversity, grief and loss, recognising when a person’s condition is changing, and how to assist clients with planning for their future care. The online training adopts a case study approach.

Decision Assist is a government-funded palliative care and advance care planning support project for aged care.

The upcoming webinars in this series include:

‘George wants resuscitation’, which explores client choice in care and how to support clients in their end-of-life decision-making. Speakers include Craig Sinclair, a research fellow at the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia; Catherine Davidson, a mediator and conflict management consultant and Stefania Invernici, a director of nursing. This webinar takes place 23 February, 1:30pm-2:15pm AEST.

‘Jane does not want to go to hospital’ is a webinar on recognising that people may not all want the same level of care and knowing where to refer people for assistance. This webinar takes place on 30 March, 1:30pm-2:15pm AEST.

‘Marjorie is breathless’ is a webinar discussing ways to make people more comfortable and understand patient choices. This webinar takes place 27 April, 1:30pm-2:15pm AEST.

‘Do you think dad is dying?’ is about recognising when end-of-life-care is needed and providing directions to support services. This webinar takes place 25 May, 1:30pm-2:15pm AEST.
