South Australian provider Resthaven has announced the winners of its 75th anniversary grants.
The large not-for-profit group announced in April that it would give a number of $5,000 grants to small charitable and not-for-profit groups working with older people in South Australia to celebrate its 75 years of service.
This week Resthaven revealed the 36 community organisations that had made successful tenders for the grants.
Among the winners was the Hut Community Centre in the Adelaide Hills which runs a lifestyle group for older men who are socially isolated or disengaged.
“We were very excited to receive the grant, as the ‘Mensmove’ program is proving very beneficial to these older men,” said the centre’s representative, Heather Trenorden. “Thank you, Resthaven – and happy birthday!”
Other winners include the Palliative Care Council of South Australia, community broadcasting organisations in Victor Harbor and Millicent and the Athelstone Uniting Church.
Resthaven CEO, Richard Hearn, said he was absolutely delighted with the ways that the money was being put to use.
“These grants aim to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of older people, their carers and volunteers,” he said.
“[They] highlight relevant issues and improve access to information that will improve independence or celebrate the wisdom and contribution of older people to society.
“Celebrating and affirming that older people are valued and respected is very important, as is affirming the good and essential work of staff, volunteers, carers and family members.”
A specially formed selection panel selected the 36 grant winners from a total of 48 nominations.
As part of the 75th anniversary celebrations, resthaven is also giving scholarships to South Australian nursing students.
