SA provider celebrates by giving money away
A major not-for-profit aged care organisation is giving grants to smaller charities to mark its 75th anniversary.
One of South Australia’s largest not-for-profit aged care providers is celebrating its 75th anniversary in a generous way.
Resthaven will provide a series of grants worth up to $5,000 to small charitable and not-for-profit groups working with older people in South Australia.
The ‘Celebrating Older People’ grants are designed to support projects in communities where Resthaven delivers care and support services.
The group’s CEO, Richard Hearn, said he hopes to provide 20 or more of the one-off grants.
“We want to affirm and strengthen the important work related to services for older people,” said Mr Hearn.
“It’s linked to the general view that we need to be connecting to the community and reinforcing positive activities that are occurring.
“We believe a lot of the smaller groups do terrific work in the community and it’s important that we encourage that work to continue.”
The grants will target projects which cover physical activity, computer training, the arts, social history projects, intergenerational activities and healthy living.
The funding is being provided as part of Resthaven’s long running Positive Images campaign.
Over the past four years the campaign has seen the development of a television commercial and radio announcements which highlight the valuable role of older people in Australian society.
“When we decided to have a celebration, we saw that as an opportunity to further encourage the contributions that older people make to the community,” said Mr Hearn.
“That is very significant because older people continue to contribute even when they are frail and receiving support themselves.”
Resthaven will conduct a number of internal celebrations to mark its 75th anniversary, including a movie day for staff and clients in June.
All applications must be submitted by Monday, 31 May.
