Sanctioned home receives tick of approval
A Queensland facility placed under sanction in December is fully compliant with the 44 accreditation outcomes.
Blue Care’s Mareeba Garden Settlement aged care facility has received full accreditation form the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.
The home near Cairns was placed under sanction on 17 December last year because of alleged deficiencies in nutrition and weight management.
But a subsequent review audit which was completed by the agency on 22 December found that the facility was full compliant with the 44 accreditation outcomes.
“The accreditation agency officially gave a full tick of approval for care at the home on Monday [19 January],” said the organisation’s Director of Residential Standards, Richard Olley.
“Blue Care is continuing its commitment to delivering high quality care and has policies and practices in place to ensure the best possible care for residents.
“The audit proves that Blue Care staff do an excellent job of caring for residents at Mareeba Garden Settlement.”
Blue Care is currently in the process of appealing the sanctions which, among other things, block Commonwealth funding to the home for new residents for a period of six months.
Late last year Mr Olley described the sanctions as “unjustified”, saying they put an unnecessary burden on the home’s committed staff members.
“Residents were provided nutritional supplements and were never at risk. The weight loss experienced is related to medical conditions that were being well managed,” he said at the time.
Blue Care is a not-for-profit organisation that operates 96 residential aged care facilities throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales.
