Seeing blue

A large Queensland community nursing and aged care provider is holding an awareness week to raise its profile and lobby Government.

Queensland community nursing and aged care provider, Blue Care is using its second annual Awareness Week (16-22 June) to lobby Federal policy makers while raising its profile in the community.

Blue Care Executive Director, Stephen Muggleton said now more than ever, the aged care sector needed to be heard.

“Our Awareness Week is about giving us a voice, putting us in the spotlight and raising our profile, as well as encouraging the donation of funds,” Mr Muggleton said.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, we recognise the need to inform people of the vital role we play in the community and the range of services we offer – from nursing, allied health and personal care to domestic assistance, respite and social support.

“Many people who do not yet have a need for these services may not know about Blue Care. Awareness Week is about informing them of our services and appealing for their support. We want to reach out and promote Blue Care to the wider community.”

Blue Care Awareness Week is being driven from the ground up, with nurses, care staff and volunteers across Queensland organising local activities and fundraisers and with support from head office and administrative staff.

Celebratory events include morning teas, sausage sizzles and luncheons.

A Corporate Breakfast and great debate in Brisbane will feature Older People Speak Out spokesperson, Val French and Deloitte Brisbane Managing Partner Tim Biggs.

Luncheons in Rockhampton and Cairns will include motivational presentations by the Governor of Queensland Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Olympian and swimming legend Lisa Curry-Kenny.
