Flinders Uni bolsters partnership with ROSA
ROSA says the strengthening of its relationship with Flinders University comes as it matures into a crucial national ageing and aged care research centre with an expanding portfolio.
South Australia’s Flinders University will become the lead university partner of the Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA) in a move that will see both organsiations working together more closely.
Based at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, ROSA monitors health, service utilisation, medication use and mortality to understand ageing in Australia, sourcing data from across the health, aged care, and social welfare sectors.
The partnership comes at a critical time for the registry, as ROSA matures into a crucial national ageing and aged care research centre and expands its portfolio, said ROSA director Professor Maria Inacio.
“The team is excited about our future working together to deliver important evidence on how to better care for older people,” Professor Inacio said in a statement.
Professor Inacio, along with ROSA Associate Director Professor Gillian Caughey and colleague Associate Professor Stephanie Harrison, will also join Flinders’ Caring Futures Institute, an endorsed Flinders research entity, as part of the partnership.
A number of Caring Futures projects have already contributed to improving the aged care system, interim Caring Futures Institute director Professor Rebecca Golley said.
“Our stronger partnership with the ROSA team will reinforce our Caring Futures Institute’s contributions to improving the lives and experiences of older people in our communities,” she said.
“Flinders will extend on these successes with the help of Professor Inacio and her colleagues who are international leaders in their fields.”
ROSA was established by SAHMRI in 2017 with the support of SA government as a partnership between Flinders University, University of Adelaide, University of South Australia and aged care providers, as well as Council on the Ageing SA (COTA SA) and SA NT DataLink and SA Health.
The Caring Futures Institute works in partnership with people and organisations across the health, education, aged care and social services sectors
Flinders University also hosts the Commonwealth funded Aged Care Research and Industry Innovation Australia, which aims to drive workforce development and innovation in the sector.
The newly established Office of the Inspector General of Aged Care recognised the importance of the registry’s work in a recent progress report assessing the implementation of the recommendations of the aged care royal commission.
