Hospitalisations too high

Australian research indicates primary and person-centred care are central to addressing high rates of hospital visits among aged care recipients.

Unplanned hospital visits are high for Australian aged care recipients, particularly for those receiving home care – who are spending twice as much time in hospital than their residential care counterparts.

Researchers at the Registry of Senior Australians investigated hospital and emergency department visits in 203,278 permanent aged care recipients and 118,999 home care package users in 2019.
