NACDA now online for researchers

The AIHW has published the first iteration of the National Aged Care Data Asset to support research about and for the sector.

In response to the aged care royal commission recommendation that reliable and comprehensive data be made available for research, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has created the National Aged Care Data Asset.

NACDA brings together data collected across aged care and health and community service settings so that government and non-government researchers can access de-identified person-level data.

The first iteration of the NACDA consists of linked data from the following collections:

  • National Aged Care Data Clearinghouse, containing information on government-funded aged care programs and assessments for home support, home care, residential care for both permanent and respite, flexible care and eligibility assessments
  • Medicare Benefits Schedule
  • Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
  • National Death Index
  • Hospital collections, including admitted patient, non-admitted patient and emergency
  • Australian Immunisation Register

The data will help to answer important aged care research and policy questions and will be updated regularly. New datasets will also be added over time.

More information on how to access NACDA can be found here.
