More HCP providers offering self-managed care

Do all home care package providers need to rethink their traditional service models?

In the recent KPMG Aged Care market analysis report, one key trend emerged: the rapid growth of Home Care Package (HCP) providers offering self-managed care. This raises an important question: Should all HCP providers consider offering self-managed care as an option for their clients?

So what is the key difference?

In one word: Workforce. In self-managed care, the client is responsible for sourcing and managing their own workforce. For HCP providers, this shifts the costs associated with attracting, recruiting, training, supervising and rostering the workforce. Essentially, the client or their representative takes on the responsibility of finding care workers and services, ensuring they have the credentials and negotiating service schedules with their chosen service providers directly.

Whilst the HCP providers still responsible for the assessment and care planning, budget oversight, and ensuring the service providers have the credentials they need, the day-to-day management of the workforce is transferred to the client.

Reducing the need to manage the workforce enables self-managed care providers to reduce their fees significantly below traditional HCP providers.

  • How can self-managed care assist in our workforce challenges?
