Benetas shares digital transformation journey
VIDEO: A digital maturity level of three out of five is going to be insufficient in the new era of aged care service delivery, says the chief information officer at Benetas.

According to a recent digital maturity survey, the Victorian-based not-for-profit aged care and retirement living provider Benetas scored three out of five.
That’s not bad relative to industry standard, said John Staines, who’s been the chief information officer at Benetas for the last three years. But it’s no longer enough, he adds.
“The changes which are coming and standards which are going to need to be delivered to our aged care customers in the future will need us to move into a more higher performing level – four or maybe even five – and as an industry in general to be honest,” Mr Staines told Australian Ageing Agenda at this month’s ITAC conference in Melbourne.
Among the challenges for aged care providers is that technologies available today vary enormously in quality and return on investment, he said.
“What I mean by that as an example is even in the residential care practice, there are no systems to my knowledge today, or integrations today which will allow a care plan to become a task plan, which is serviced by nurses and or carers to which you’ve got measured outcomes which we can automatically report.
“All of these things, I’m glad to say are works in progress that [the ITAC conference] is actually developing – but there’s nothing available today.”
