The program is out for aged care’s annual technology conference, which this year aims to emphasise the importance of information technology in establishing a sustainable, quality-focused aged care environment through presentations offering a practical perspective.

ITAC 2015, which is the 8th Annual Information Technology in Aged Care Conference, has a theme of ‘Living the Age Revolution: IT driving change’ and brings together local and international experts across residential and community aged care, medication management, assistive technologies and information system delivery.

Representatives from Telstra Health and Alexys Australia were among stakeholders who told Technology Review they had impressive solutions to showcase at the upcoming two-day event.

According to the ITAC program, plenary presentations include:

  • Holly Ransom, global strategist in intergenerational leadership, HRE Global, talking about leadership and change in a changing world
  • Former programme manager for the Scottish ‘dallas’ programme ‘Living it Up’, Janette Hughes, will present on how Scotland is harnessing innovation and co-designing to develop digital services and products for the over 50’s.
  • Patrick Reid, CEO, Leading Age Services Australia (LASA), will showcase the projects and present the key learnings from this year’s hackathon innovAGE as well as discuss the factors for successful future innovAGE solutions.
  • Dr Martin Seers, who is clinical director of informatics at Canterbury District Health Board and clinical lead at Pegasus Health Information Systems, will talk about integrating primary and secondary information systems within normal business rules in a New Zealand health district

In addition to a vendor stream, concurrent sessions feature provider case studies and cover areas such as:

  • Clinical services – nursing in the age of Aquarius, e-health enabled nurse practitioners and tele-dentistry in residential aged care
  • Home care – rostering, technology and individual budgets
  • Business innovation – operation-wide solutions, planning for disruptive solutions and diversifying community care
  • Assistive technologies – Smart solutions and wheelchair control
  • Mobility – video game and employee safety

The pre-conference program includes a series of Aged Care Industry IT Company (ACIitC) committee meetings. These will be followed by an industry forum facilitated by Arron Wood to develop a roadmap defining the future directions for aged care IT including a joint industry Government strategy for a coordinated plan to deliver full G2B business IT capability.
