From July 1 all providers will be assessed against the new Aged Care Quality Standards which will replace the accreditation, home care, NATSIFAC and transition care standards.
The new single set of standards will apply to all aged care services including residential, home, flexible care and CHSP.
The government says the standards focus on quality outcomes for consumers while simplifying regulation for providers who are working across multiple aged care services, and encouraging excellence and innovation in the industry.
LASA CEO Sean Rooney launched the peak’s Aged Care Safety and Quality Management System at the opening session of LASA’s Tri-State Conference in Albury on Sunday saying it offered a better way for providers to collect, store and report operational performance information.
The tool was designed by industry experts with input from LASA members, he said.
One stop shop
Mr Rooney said the system provides around 50 ready-made policy and process templates aligned with the new standards. It was designed to help providers to deliver the best possible consumer-centred care, he added.
“The benefit of this is that it’s an online tool that you can use on a tablet or a phone or a laptop and you can access it from anywhere,” he said.
“It gives you a one stop shop that not only has all the polices and procedures, but also allows you to report and record in real time.
“This will be a fantastic tool for residential care and home care providers because they’ll be able to have everything at their fingertips for planning, reporting and compliance audits.”
Mr Rooney also announced the launch of LASA’s Health and Aged Care Legislative Update Service which would help providers keep up to date with state, territory and federal legislation, he said.
The service is available at a discount for members and will be available online shortly.
LASA was committed to supporting members to be sustainable, high performing and respected at a time when the aged care industry was facing more public scrutiny than ever before, Mr Rooney said.
