New app supports seniors to connect with friends and business in their community

A new Australian developed app aims to help people find out what is happening in their area while also enabling businesses to promote their services or products to users.
It is also possible for users to see if people in their network are in the same area, which could facilitate spur-of-the-moment catch ups among seniors in the community, who can also be alerted to local community events.
The app, Plan-et, aims to support planning a day while allowing for last-minute life and business decisions, according to developer and chief executive Daniel Goodin.
People can use the app to find out if people they know are in the same neighbourhood, about any special events within a chosen distance from where they are, or to find where to eat or shop in seconds, Mr Goodin said.

Upon opening the app, users see where they are and what is around them, while a series of icons on screen give options within a chosen distance – such as friends, events, restaurants, entertainment and business promotions.
“When using Plan-et, it’s like looking at a map but you see the actual buildings and surrounds with icons alerting you to what’s there.
“People can search for things to do on the basis of age, price, distance and date. Friends can connect on Plan-et [and see] if they happen to be in the same area,” Mr Goodin said.
He said the app also puts small businesses on a level playing field with those who have big marketing budgets.
“Potential customers will be alerted to a business promotion when they are actively looking for it… Anything from fetes, workshops, school open days, music festivals, and sales can be listed by businesses at just 2 dollars a day,” he said.
Businesses can register at www.plan-et.com, and the app is available in App stores under Plan-et.
