Tech council recruiting participants for mentoring program
The aged care sector’s technology body has launched a mentoring initiative to support providers to implement effective information technology systems.
The aged care sector’s technology body has launched a mentoring initiative to support providers to implement effective information technology systems.
The Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council, which is backed by aged care peak bodies Leading Age Services Australia and Aged and Community Services Australia, aims to improve the quality of aged care through educating providers about the capabilities of well-managed information technology.
The ACIITC is seeking mentees to participate in its new Technology and Innovation Mentoring Program, which has been developed as part of an overarching goal to build a technology-enabled aged care sector.
The nine initial mentors in the program include ACIITC chair Dr George Margelis and fellow ACIITC representatives Rod Young, Anne Livingstone and Jennene Buckley.
The program aims to address key issues and findings identified in the 2017 Technology Roadmap for Aged Care in Australia, which include a need for technology to underpin the delivery of aged care services to ensure independence, choice and control for consumers (read more here).
The other main issues identified in the report include unprecedented levels of population ageing, the rapid development of new technologies and aged care sector reform that is changing the way older Australians will be supported.
The mentoring program takes on these main issues and aims to bring like-minded people together to build a technology-enabled and innovation focused aged care sector in Australia, the ACIITC said.
The initial mentors have been sourced from members of the ITAC Hall of Fame and ACIITC CIO national forum and also include June Heinrich, Glenn Bunney, Allan Turner, Suri Ramanathan and Nigel Faull.
Mentors have identified the following mentoring areas for the program:
- incorporating technology into strategic plans
- planning investment in technology
- building networks and relationships in the sector
- technology and innovation workplace practices
- digital strategies
- information governance and reporting
- building networks and relationships in the sector, specifically global networks
- upgrading technologies
- cybersecurity practices.
The ACIITC is recruiting the first intake of mentees interested in receiving mentoring on any of the above topics.
Mentees will be paired with a mentor knowledgeable in the area they are interested in.
