Video to help consumers navigate aged care maze

An aged care provider has produced a video for consumers explaining the financial implications of transitioning into residential aged care.

NSW aged care provider SummitCare has produced and launched a cartoon-style video for consumers explaining the financial implications of transitioning into residential aged care.

The free video resource tells the story of Betty and her family. Betty has had a fall, spent some time in hospital and is unable to live safely at home any longer.

The resource covers:

  • the aged care assessment process
  • finding an aged care centre
  • visiting Centrelink to complete the appropriate form
  • the financial choices available
  • the questions that must be asked
  • care costs and
  • how financial advisors can assist

CEO Cynthia Payne said SummitCare made the resource because many of the families contacting them about a relative moving into care had no understanding of the financial processes involved.

“Exploring aged care options online makes Betty and her family feel like they are entering a maze. We believe our video, which is not just informative but lovely to watch, will help them navigate through the process,” Ms Payne said.
