ACCPA appoints new chair

Thousands of aged care stakeholders have gathered in Adelaide this week as the event’s host announces Michael Reid as incoming chair.

Aged and Community Care Providers Association has announced experienced health administrator Michael Reid as the incoming chair at this year’s annual conference where nearly 2,500 people have gathered.

Mr Reid brings a wealth of experience to his new role, including five years as director general of New South Wales Health and three years in a simialr role at Queensland Health.

From 2004 to 2007 he was the director General of the Ministry for Science and Medical Research in New South Wales.

Mr Reid said it is an honour to be appointed as chair when profound reform promises to change the way we deliver care and support to older Australians.

“ACCPA has shown the way for the aged care sector since its inception helping to shape reforms for the benefit of all Australians. Together we can build a sector we can all be proud of,” Mr Reid said.

ACCPA also thanked outgoing chairman Dr Graeme Blackman for his service as independent chair since the launch of the peak in May 2022.

Dr Blackman, who is speaking this morning at ACCPA’s national conference, said his role as chairman has been one of the most “challenging” and “rewarding” chapters of his career.

“I am immensely proud to stand at the forefront of a sector that has demonstrated exceptional leadership during these transformative times,” said Dr Blackman, who was a strong advocate for a single peak body and chair of former peak Leading Age Services Australia from 2014 until its transition to ACCPA.

“At ACCPA, we embrace the concept that change is the only constant, and I have seen this organisation grow from strength to strength.”
